May 15. 

An all-time high of 64 percent of U.S. adults say same-sex marriages should be recognized by the law as valid. Although not meaningfully different from the 61% of last year, this is the highest percentage to date and continues a generally steady rise since Gallup's began polling this topic in 1996.


May 18. 

Lithuania First Country to Grant Asylum to Gay Men Escaping Chechnya. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius has confirmed that the two men have been granted asylum after fleeing persecution in Russia. 
立陶宛是第一個為逃離車臣的同性戀者提供庇護的國家。立陶宛外交部長Linas Linkevičius証實,兩名逃離俄羅斯迫害的男子已獲得該國庇護。


May 19. 

For the very first time, the rainbow flag has been flown in Nepal as part of the country’s observance of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT). The Pride flag was raised high above the United Nations House in Kathmandu, with a ceremony marking Nepal’s commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, Gay Star News reports. Nepal is one of the most progressive countries in Southeast Asia - LGBTQ+ rights are protected under the nation’s constitution, and the government officially recognises a third gender in the census and on identification documents.

Australia's most powerful doctors' group has thrown its weight behind same-sex marriage for the first time, declaring it a public health issue and calling on politicians to end the divisive debate. Releasing the AMA (Australian Medical Association) Position Statement on Marriage Equality 2017, its president Dr Michael Gannon said that excluding same-sex couples from the institution of marriage has significant mental and physical health consequences for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) Australians.

Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons marries boyfriend of 14 years. The 44-year-old tied the knot with his partner of over 14 years, Todd Spiewak in New York on the weekend.

Strawweight Tecia Torres and bantamweight (135 pounds) Raquel Pennington announced on Twitter that, after moving in together, Pennington had popped the question.

An Islamic Shariah court in Indonesia’s conservative Aceh province has sentenced two gay men to public caning for the first time, further undermining the country’s moderate image after a top Christian politician was imprisoned for blasphemy. International human rights groups have described the treatment of the men as abusive and humiliating and called for their immediate release. Human Rights Watch said in April that public caning would constitute torture under international law.


May 19.

Kuala Lumpur Bans Pride Celebration After Complaints By Religious Groups. A three-day LGBTQ+ event was organized by a group of students at Taylor’s University, located near the nation’s capital Kuala Lumpur. It was going to include a film screening, a forum, and a march on campus, and was scheduled to take place from June 6 to 8.
Authorities in Bangladesh have arrested 27 men on suspicion of being gay, a criminal offence in the Muslim-majority country, and plan to charge them with drug possession, an official has said. Bangladesh’s legal code prohibits “unnatural offenses,” which it says includes voluntary “carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal.” The offense is punishable with life in prison.

Indonesian police have arrested 141 men attending what they called a "gay sex party" at a sauna in the capital Jakarta late on Sunday. Homosexuality is not illegal under Indonesian law, except in conservative Aceh province.
